The Helen Sharman School in Assen is part of the British School in The Netherlands in The Hague. Assen is the capital of Drenthe, which is a province in the north of The Netherlands, 220 km from The Hague.

The Helen Sharman School is housed in a purpose built primary school. The School follows the National Curriculum for England and Wales.

The School is multi-cultural with children from many different countries. About 70% of the pupils are from NAM (a company within the Shell group) and 30% from other international companies.

The Academic programme is based upon the National Curriculum for England and Wales covering the three core subjects, English, Mathematics and Science, together with the foundation subjects, History, Geography, Information Technology, Design Technology, Art, Music and P.E. Information Technology is integrated throughout the whole curriculum and is used to enhance many subject areas. There are multimedia computers in every classroom as well as a fully equipped IT suite.

There is specialist help with the teaching of English as an Additional Language and Special Needs. Teachers are mainly recruited from the UK.

Admission may be granted any time during the school year following an interview with the parents and the child. During the interview there will be an opportunity to tour the school and to speak to both staff and students. Your child's last report from his/her previous school has to be handed over to the school. Children are placed in year group according to their age.
