Founded in 1963, the
school caters for children,of all nationalities who are in Oslo for a short
period or who intend to continue with an English language education.
It provides a British-type academic programme with strong international
elements. Group work and individual tuition as prominent features of the type
of teaching given. Non-English speaking children receive a course of EAL. The
school is a centre for London University GCSE and Cambridge IGCSE
examinations.'It prepares candidates for the main academic subjects with
French, German, Spanish, art, drama, food science, DT and ICT included. Parents
can arrange with the Principal to have special examinations sent to the school
if desired. From the age of 16 the school provides a course leading to
International Baccalaureate. All teachers are experienced and fully
qualified, a large percentage being university graduates, and most of the staff
are permanently resident in Norway. |
The children are of many
nationalities and normally remain for an average of two/three years. School
hours are from 9am to 3pm. The school year is from late August to late June. A
variety of extra- curricular activities are available, many organized with help
from parents. Swimming is taught from Reception to Year 1 1. Skiing instruction
is part of the programme for some classes in all sections of the school in
winter. The school is in a suburban area about fifteen minutes' drive
from Oslo. There is good playground space and additional access to nearby
sports fields and sports hall/swimming hall. The Junior and Secondary schools
are situated in the large main building and the Infant School in the smaller
one. 'There are 50 classrooms in all, three laboratories, two computer rooms,
two libraries, a cookery room, a gymnasium and a music and drama room.
