The British International School Istanbul has a worldwide
reputation for the education it provides. The School is
continuing a vigorous stage of revival, in which the excellent
calibre and diversity of international teachers is a leading
asset. A new purpose-built campus opened in 2006, with the
stimulus and potential that this implies. The new campus in
Zekeriyakoy serves students aged 3 to 18. It embodies our
continuing development and expansion for an international
community we are proud to serve. In the city we have pre- and
primary schools located in Levent, Etiler and Alkent. The ethos at the British International School Istanbul is welcoming and embracing. We aim to inspire enthusiasm, confidence and independence in our students and instil in them awareness and appreciation of different cultures, beliefs, skills, values and personalities. Istanbul is an unrivalled location for true global awareness; a prerequisite to success in the twenty-first century. Men and women have brought every culture on earth to Istanbul for thousands of years. Our location is both profoundly ancient and wonderfully modern. The sheer dynamism of the city is an extraordinary context in which to learn and teach. Our academic performance is high, with excellent external examination results in both the Primary and Secondary Schools. We stress traditional features of British education and follow the National Curriculum for England and Wales for students aged 3 to 16. The final two years culminate in the International Baccalaureate Diploma or Certificate. The School is non-selective, although students entering Year 10 and above with English as a second language must demonstrate their ability to access the curriculum. We believe that learning is a life long venture, for which we aim to provide a firm foundation, where each student is motivated to strive for their personal best. Our small classes and teacher-pupil ratios engender a community feeling and our dedicated teachers build on strong partnerships between home and school. We expect parents to play an integral part in the education of their children and we expect and require regular communication among students, families, teachers and administration. |
As well as developing high achievers, we want our students to
grow into balanced people. There is considerable opportunity for
sport, art, drama and music and a comprehensive extra-curricular
programme provides further opportunities for students to gain
new skills. The school encourages students to look beyond their
world to the needs of others. Varied community projects are a
thread that unite the School as a whole and connect it to the
city and country. We encourage every student in their quest for self-discovery. We urge them to take pleasure in thinking, reading and learning; to make lifelong friends and to develop their own personalities during their time at the British International School Istanbul. |
