The British Embassy Study Group was founded in 1959 to provide a primary school education for the children of the embassy staff members. Since that time the school has grown and changed, so that there are now pupils from 29 nationalities in enlarged and modernised buildings. However we have remained in our own grounds within the embassy compound, which offer both security and additional facilities. Emphasis is placed on individual encouragement, achievement and mutual respect. Many staff have already taught in overseas schools and all are aware of the needs of an international community.

The Study Group is a private, non-profit making school, which serves the diplomatic and business community. It is governed by a Board of Governors with a Chair appointed by the British Ambassador.

A British-style education is offered through the medium of the English National Curriculum, with English as the language of instruction. Consideration is given to our setting in Turkey, both within the mainstream subjects and through the teaching of Turkish language and culture from Year 1.

The SATs tests are given to all age groups from Year 2, and the school consistently achieves performance levels within the top 3% of the published scores in the United Kingdom. The Literacy and Numeracy strategies are fully incorporated into the overall curriculum. The school’s approach to the humanities and physical education includes a range of residential and day trips, which are organised from Year 2 onwards. We are fortunate that Turkey provides many unique resources, both in terms of history and geology.

Children are welcome from age 3 to 11, with the youngest children attending half a day. Those children who are not native speakers are given interviews, with an additional written test for all applicants in Years 3 to 6.

Applications should be made as soon as possible and the closing date for first interviews is the end of April.
The school has extensive grounds, which include a large area of natural woodland and an all-weather pitch. Internal facilities include a large library, art and technology room, computer suite, music room and a gymnasium.

A full programme of after-school clubs is provided, staffed by both teachers and other volunteers. Some private clubs are also run alongside. The school day is from 08.40 to 15.00, with the Nursery finishing after lunch at 13.00. The school year is from the beginning of September until the end of June, with holidays at Christmas and Easter, and half terms.
