The British School of
Alicante was founded in 2001 by a parents' cooperative, although the
education is overseen by Kings College, Madrid. Situated 5 minutes
from the centre of Alicante city it occupies a specially designed
building overlooking the Mediterranean.
Our prime motivation is to provide an environment of excellence and
quality. Our students are given access to the highest level academic
tuition, and are provided with the opportunity to develop their
personal and social skills to prepare them to take their place in
society as educated, thoughtful and responsible citizens.
The school facilities include modern classrooms, library, music
rooms, 3 Science laboratories, Art room, ICT suites, 2 gymnasiums
and sports pitches as well as several play areas.
The UK staff have British teaching qualifications, and there are
native Spanish teachers to teach Spanish language and History and
Geography, as well as Valencian.
All students follow the English National Curriculum. When they are
in Year 10 (14 years old) they begin a 2 year course of preparation
for Cambridge International GCSEs, and in Year 12 we offer A Level
courses which prepare students for university entrance in both the
UK and Spain.
Class sizes are an average of 25. The nationality breakdown of our
students is approximately 70% Spanish, 25% British and 5% other
nationalities.
The academic year starts in the second week of September, and
finishes in mid-late June, divided into 3 terms. The school day
starts at 9.00am and lessons finish at 4.30pm. There is a wide
choice of after school activities which run from 4.30pm-5.30pm |
